La Vend\u00e9e, jusqu’\u00e0 une p\u00e9riode r\u00e9cente, \u00e9tait r\u00e9duite \u00e0 une simple guerre civile, franco-fran\u00e7aise. En 1985, un jeune chercheur, Reynald Secher, soutient devant un jury d’exception compos\u00e9 de 7 membres (Jean Meyer, Pierre Chaunu, Jean Tulard, Andr\u00e9 Corvisier, Jean-Pierre Bardot, Louis-Bernard Mer et le recteur Yves Durand), \u00e0 Paris IV-Sorbonne, une th\u00e8se intitul\u00e9e : Contribution \u00e0 l’\u00e9tude du g\u00e9nocide franco francais: la Vend\u00e9e-Veng\u00e9. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Documents \u00e0 l’appui, il d\u00e9montre que la r\u00e9pression de la Vend\u00e9e par la Convention est un g\u00e9nocide de type proto-industriel l\u00e9gal en vue de l’extermination d’une partie du peuple de France non pas en raison de ce qu’il faisait, mais de ce qu’il \u00e9tait. Cette th\u00e8se, publi\u00e9e en pleine pr\u00e9paration du bicentenaire de la R\u00e9volution fran\u00e7aise, suscite une vive \u00e9motion qui vaut \u00e0 son auteur bon nombre de probl\u00e8mes et lui co\u00fbte, entre autres, sa carri\u00e8re universitaire. Pour la premi\u00e8re fois, \u00e0 travers ce livre, Reynald Secher t\u00e9moigne. Son r\u00e9cit d\u00e9passe l’entendement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
